After a really poor start to my season I finally got you some scale samples last night from a fish I caught in the Dead Neuk at 12:10am, I started fishing about 2 mins past 12 and got a pull of something almost right away but did not connect so re-cast and either it came again or another fish took which this time stuck (pic attached). It was about 2.5lb or 3 lb and it was returned, I didn't measure it as I thought it had been out of the water for long enough by the time I had taken the scale samples so got it back, it did take a while to recover but I think it got away OK, I should be able to work out a fairly accurate length from the picture as my rod is in shot. I fished on but didn't get any more. I was glad to get it as I had fished down there for two hours on Sat night and just started to get quite a few offers and lost one decent fish in the last 20 mins before 3am and didn't really want to leave when 3am arrived, so tyed up a few of the flies I had been using (flashy Alex) in secret weapon style with the tiny trailing treble and that's what did the business.
